About Mulboo

Welcome to my world of stylish and comfortable mix-and-match clothing, proudly crafted right here in beautiful Australia.

Every piece is thoughtfully designed to balance comfort, creativity, and individuality. I personally hand-pattern each scarf, ensuring every piece carries its own unique energy and story. My jewellery and gifts are also individually handcrafted by me, with care and attention to detail.

My aim is to make life a little simpler by creating stylish, easy-to-wear clothing and thoughtful gift items that feel uplifting, expressive, and just a little bit quirky.

You’ll find me working from my cosy studio in the picturesque Redlands of Brisbane, where creativity, colour, and nature come together in every collection.

Step into a world where every piece tells a story.

I can’t wait to welcome you.

About me

Hi, I’m Colleen Smith — an experimental artisan.

That simply means I love creating beautiful things with my hands using many different techniques; some traditional and some completely my own. That’s the best part of the creative journey.

As a little girl, I had a vivid imagination and a dream of running my own business. That entrepreneurial spirit stayed with me throughout my life.

After studying business and later running a stall at the South Bank Markets showcasing the work of other talented creatives, I realised my true passion was creating and selling my own work and bringing my own vision to life.

In 2009, after the passing of my Dad, I finally took the leap and Mulboo – Clothing & Gifts was born.

His words will stay with me forever:

“If you don’t do something now, it will never happen.”

I’ll always be grateful for his encouragement to be the best I could be regardless of the storm, and thankful to my Mum for teaching me the importance of strength and determination.

I am deeply passionate about colour, pattern, texture, and movement. Each piece is created with love and represents part of an ongoing journey of discovery. I still get excited watching colours and patterns come to life.

Nature has always been one of my greatest inspirations. I find beauty in the intricate patterns that surround us and strive to capture their energy and movement in my work. Celebrating vibrant colour while embracing the uniqueness of imperfection sits at the heart of what I do.

My studio, nestled in the Redlands of Brisbane, is my creative haven — a place where ideas come to life. My work includes hand-dyed and hand-patterned scarves and clothing, digital art, art tile gift cards, thoughtful inspirational gifts, and earthy, boho-inspired jewellery.

Creating is more than what I do — it’s part of who I am.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my creations with the world.

Why did I choose that name?

The name “Mulboo” was inspired by an Aboriginal word meaning “thunder”, from the language traditionally spoken by my father’s Biripi family.

When my father spoke the word to me many years ago, “Mulboo” was the sound I heard and remembered. At the time there was very little documented online about the language, and today different spellings and interpretations may be found depending on the source.

I chose the name Mulboo in honour of my father — a proud Biripi man — and for the encouragement he gave me to always be the best I could be regardless of the storm.

His strength, wisdom, and resilience continue to inspire the ethos behind this business.

At Mulboo, I encourage connection between generations and believe that understanding where we come from helps guide where we’re heading.

Mulboo ~ It’s O.K. to be you!!
